Sun Protection and Clean Drinking Water Initiative
He will be like a shelter and shade from the heat. Isaiah 25:4
We cannot free every family from hardship overnight, but together, we can make their daily work bearable and show them they are not forgotten.
Executive Summary
In many parts of Pakistan—particularly within marginalized environments such as brick kiln yards and impoverished rural settlements—families endure extreme weather conditions, including searing summer temperatures that frequently exceed 40°C to 45°C (104°F to 113°F). Laborers working under harsh conditions face severe health risks like heatstroke, dehydration, and exhaustion. Compounding this is a severe lack of access to safe, clean drinking water, leading to rampant waterborne illnesses among children and adults.
Lovers of God Ministries Pakistan is launching this integrated Sun Protection and Clean Drinking Water Project to bring immediate physical relief, health, and Christ-like compassion to vulnerable workers and their families. While long-term structural freedom is vital, this project focuses on making daily life and labor bearable, preserving human dignity, and protecting the health of the “least of these” (Matthew 25:40).
Statement of Need & Problem Analysis
Extreme Heat & Sun Exposure: Brick kiln laborers—many trapped in intergenerational cycles of poverty and modern-day debt bondage—spend grueling hours working directly under the blazing sun. They lack proper shade, protective coverings, and cooling resources at their workstations.
The Water Crisis: Access to clean drinking water is scarce in these areas. Families are often forced to consume contaminated water, resulting in high rates of water-related diseases, particularly among young children.
Spiritual & Physical Compassion: True to the mission of Lovers of God Ministries, this project moves beyond words into tangible action (1 John 3:18), proving to struggling workers that they are seen, valued, and deeply loved by God.
Project Objectives
Provide Shade & Sun Protection: Distribute heavy-duty weather-resistant tarpaulins, shading materials, and portable sun-shielding gear to safeguard brick kiln families from extreme UV radiation and blistering heat.
Ensure Safe Hydration: Supply community water coolers, safe storage containers, and accessible clean drinking water setups to keep workers and their children hydrated through peak summer months.
Improve Community Health: Drastically reduce instances of heatstroke, dehydration, and waterborne illnesses within targeted work camps.
Share the Love of Christ: Accompany physical aid with spiritual support, prayer, and pastoral care, offering a message of hope and refuge (Isaiah 25:4).
4. Target Beneficiaries
Primary: Families and child laborers working at brick kiln sites in Faisalabad and surrounding districts.
Core Project Components
Component A: The Sun Protection Initiative (Tarpaulin & Shade Distribution)
High-Quality Tarpaulins: Providing durable tarpaulin sheets that families can rig over their open workspace/living areas to block direct, scorching sunlight.
Workplace Relief: Equipping workers with basic protective utility items to lessen the direct impact of high temperatures.
Component B: Clean Drinking Water Initiative (Coolers & Hydration Support)
Water Coolers & Dispensers: Distributing insulated water coolers to kiln sites so workers and children have continuous access to cool, potable water during long shifts.
Safe Storage Equipment: Providing clean containers for families to store filtered or safe drinking water safely at their quarters.
Implementation Plan & Timeline
Phase 1: Assessment & Identification (Weeks 1–2)
Survey local brick kiln camps in the Faisalabad region to record the exact number of vulnerable families and assess acute needs.
Coordinate with community leaders and local church/prayer centers on-site.
Phase 2: Procurement (Weeks 3–4)
Source high-grade tarpaulins, robust insulated water coolers, and hydration supplies locally to maximize efficiency.
Phase 3: Distribution & Setup (Weeks 5–6)
Host community distribution gatherings, coupling the handover of supplies with prayer, words of encouragement, and sharing the Gospel.
Phase 4: Monitoring & Follow-Up (Ongoing)
Monitor the condition of the distributed equipment and evaluate the health impact on targeted families through ongoing ministry visits and children’s Bible study outreaches.
